The Minority Education Initiative (MEI), is a non- profit organization, made up of educators, policymakers, professionals in the public and private sector and other individuals committed to ensuring that secondary and post-secondary educational opportunities are appropriate and accessible to students from disadvantaged backgrounds.The mission of MEI is to increase awareness, access, and actualization of a college degree for minorities as a means of improving quality of life. Through workshops, trainings, and conferences we hope to bring attention to this important topic.

RAYMOND CABRERA

Raymond Cabrera's career includes over 17 years of experience in staff development, training, counseling, college and career planning, and conference planning. He has worked with elementary, high school, as well as adult students. Raymond is the past-President of the Florida Association of Educational Opportunity Program Personnel (FAEOPP), current Treasurer of the Southeastern Association of Special Program Personnel (SAEOPP), and is a member of the American Counseling Association. Originally from Newark, New Jersey, Raymond attended Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey where he obtained a B.A. degree in Psychology. From there he went on to obtain a M.A. degree in school counseling from Kean University in Union, New Jersey. Raymond is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Counseling at the University of South Florida in Tampa. He is the Director of the Upward Bound program at the University of South Florida and prior to joining USF; Raymond spent 8 years working with Babyland Family Services, Inc. and Montclair State University. He is married to Alicia Cabrera and they have one child, Ciara.

​WILLIAM CURRY

William Troy Curry is a native New Yorker but his heritage is deeply rooted in the South. After graduating from high school, William decided to take his talents south and enrolled into Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU), where he received a full scholarship. In 2004 William received his Bachelor of Arts Degree. He is a 2014 graduate of the University of Phoenix's Master’s program with a degree in Business Administration. Beyond the significant time William has devoted to students he has also served in numerous professional capacities including current President of the Georgia TRiO professional association (GASPP), chair Georgia TRiO Student Leadership Conference, co-chair SAEOPP Annual Conference, and board member for both the regional and national TRiO professional associations. He is also the co-founder and past president of FAMU’s Young Black Entrepreneurs Organization, Board Member of the Abron's Art Center in New York City, Board Member of Boys’ Club of New York. Currently, William is the Executive Director of Federally-funded TRIO Programs at Atlanta Metropolitan State College and has worked for the University System of Georgia for the past ten years. The departments under his auspices total annual combined budgets of $2.5M and include (4) Upward Bound Program, Upward Bound Math & Science Program, Talent Search Program, Student Support Services Program, and Student Support Services STEM. He is married to his beautiful and devoted wife of three years, Dannika Kamille Curry and they one child, Dallas Troy born in March of 2014. Out of all of life’s pleasures William finds great joy in inspiring and motivating today’s youth to help them make powerful transformations in all areas of their lives.
